Live, Webcast Fundraising Raises $2,000 in 60-Minutes


Interns at the Borgen Project made fundraising history on Wednesday, July 10, 2008. Standard fundraising was turned on its head when a sixty-minute phone marathon was broadcast live over the Internet. From the comfort of their far-away desks, donors were able to watch as Borgen Project volunteers packed into the boardroom and hit the phones.

Public Interest in Poverty Growing


Fueled by growing concern about poverty among the general public, media coverage of poverty as a political issue has increased by 145 percent from 2003 to 2007, according to a recent study by Spotlight on Poverty and Opportunity. Still, 56 percent of respondents indicated that the media did not spend enough time “covering the issue of fighting poverty in the U.S.,” according to a survey by McLaughlin and Associates. The findings, which span across party lines, indicate that the media and politicians must do more to bring poverty to the forefront.
