Augustin Solar Water Purifier

Clean and healthy drinking water is one of the most demanded resources world-wide. Demand for water is increasing due to rapid population growth and dwindling resources. Roughly two billion people have no access to clean, potable drinking water. One potential solution to alleviating the global water crises is to explore new sources of water supply, one of them being the desalination of abundant salt water supply.

The Augustin Solar Water Purifier is a polycarbonate cone that purifies up to 1.5 liters a day using very little sunshine. The innovative design is simple and effective. People can pour brackish water into the opaque base, set it out in the sun and the water evaporates upwards, condenses on the inner lining of the cone and trickles into a separate trough. Voila! Desalinated, purified drinking water.

“Sea water desalination is key to supplying the world’s population with drinking water, but it can only be sustainable hence socially and environmentally responsible, if that desalination is based on renewable energies.” --MAGE Water Management Leitmotiv
