The Hippo Water Roller

Numbers show that approximately 10,000 communities in Southern Africa, around 15 million people, currently don’t have access to adequate water. Many Africans have to travel long distances to far-away waterholes or wells to meet their daily water needs. To transport the water back, women and children frequently haul five gallon buckets on their heads. This extraneous weight has long term health effects, leaving spinal and back injuries.

The Hippo Water Roller is a ‘poverty alleviating product’ that is a barrel-shaped container of UV stabilized polyethylene designed to transport 20 gallons of water. The simple technology has already improved the lives of over 200,000 people and provided easier access to water.
