Bed Nets for Everyone

Global Fund announced the grant that will supply half of the needed bed nets to reach 2 per household by 2010. The total amount approximately needed is 62 million bed nets. The combined efforts of Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and the Federal Ministry of Health of Nigeria will be the largest single grant given to the fight against malaria by the Global Fund. The efforts put in by both Nigeria and the other contributors show that reaching the global targets are not just numbers, but realities that can be achieved. The total amount of money signed away today to fight malaria equals $285 million over the next 2 years. This will both help control malaria, and eventually to help eliminate it. Malaria is one of the biggest killers with over 225,000 deaths a year, with nearly all of them children under 5. The grants will also help to provide malaria treatments to those already infected. The Global Fund has supported many causes in different countries, but this teaming with Nigeria is significantly for the fight against malaria.
