United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child

November was the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child's 20th anniversary. UNICEF in 1989 decided to make the first legally binding international instrument to protect the natural human rights of children. These non-negotiable rules take into account the culture and religion of different countries, but ask that the human rights of kids be protected and enforced. These are the right to survival, the right to develop to the fullest, the right to protection from harmful influences, abuse and exploitation, and to have the right to participate fully in family and social life. They put out a slide show with 20 different children from across the globe talking about what these rights mean to them and where they would like to be when they are 20. The children should have and know their rights, this convention strives to give them that they should be born with, but are not always given. If you would like to visit the convention in its entirety go to United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
