Aggressive Strides Being Taken to Combat Mother-Child HIV Transmission

In accordance with Millennium Development Goal (MDG) #6, to combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and other Diseases, a campaign in Africa has been launched that will fight to reduce the HIV and AIDS infection to mothers and children. This aggressive campaign will initially focus on 6 countries - Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Nigeria.

This campaign aims at increasing the coverage rates for mother-to-child transmission of HIV from the initial average of 30% to the globally agreed MDG target of 80%.

Such results will be achieved through the implementation of family-centered care and nutrition, early infant diagnosis and treatment, and improved access to appropriate medication of infected mothers and children.
