United Nations Pledges Increased Food Security Assistance to Chad

Chad is among thirty other nations facing severe food insecurities due to poor harvest conditions, drought, high food prices, and internal conflict. Currently UN agencies such as the UN Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), are working to extend assistance to over 2 million people in the region.

Contributions of the project include a project to distribute 615 tons of animal feed, 47,000 tons of food for people in affected drought regions, and possibly an allotment of seeds to ‘vulnerable households’.

In total, the UN Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) has focused on health and nutrition in Chad, already allocating $3,751,801 to such projects this year.
