Millions Given for Food Security

In an amazing show of support, the European Union has released about $12 million to the government of Malawi in order to improve food security for the small African nation.

The assistance shown by the EU will enable the planting of 10.5 million tree seedlings, as well as the management of of 2,250 hectares of forest area that will benefit almost 35,000 community members.

In addition, the disbursement by the EU will fund different public works programs to distribute irrigation pumps that will promote better sustainability for the Malawian agricultural industry.

Efforts such as these by the European Union are in line with the goals of the United Nations Millennium Development Project - which aims to decrease global poverty and increase environmental sustainability by the year 2015.
