New Alliance for Corporate Volunteerism

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and IBM signed a Memorandum of Understanding this week on a new Alliance for International Corporate Volunteerism (ICV). This alliance will help private firms interested in corporate volunteerism to focus their efforts in the most efficient and useful ways.

IBM already has a successful Corporate Service Corps. (CSC) which sends hundreds of employees to regions with lower development to assist in varied economic development activities. The ICV hopes to expand on this effective model to increase professionals assisting countries abroad and allow volunteering efforts be as beneficial as possible.

More specifically, the ICV Facility is intended to provide program management, public sector coordination, logistical and evaluation support, as well as share best practices and suggest meaningful and strategic projects in which companies can engage.
