The Importance of Innovation

Bill Gates has released his annual letter on the progress being made toward the alleviation of global poverty, as well as the work that has yet to be completed.

Within this letter Mr. Gates addresses innovation a useful tool that is not always utilized as best it could be to address the needs of poverty in the developing world. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation cites that there has been an under-investment in innovation over the years particularly in sectors that benefit the poor, such as education and health.

"During the last two centuries, there have been a huge number of innovations that have fundamentally changed the human condition - more than doubling our life span and giving us cheap energy and more food." According to Mr. Gates, such innovations are necessary investment are dependent upon rich countries as well as brilliant minds that are often overlooked.
