Developing African Agriculture For Everyone

Michigan State University recently received a $10M grant from the ever-so generous Gates Foundation to teach sustainability through agriculture in Africa. AgShare Open Education Resources, an 18-month long project will teach educators in Africa about technological advancements, bio-safety, and overall improvements in agricultural practices.

The most beneficial aspect of the project is the material's open arena and accessibility to the entire continent of Africa. Educators, farmers, and non-governmental agencies alike are invited and welcomed to take part in this learning process and spread the information for the commonwealth. In addition, the foundation of all lessons is sustainability. It all boils down to that ancient proverb in some variation or another: Give someone a potato, they eat for a day. Teach someone to farm and they eat for a lifetime.
