A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out

Sithembile Ndema, from Zimbabwe, works at the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN). She is in London this week to attend the inaugural One Young World, summit, a global conference for young leaders under the age of 25.

During this conference Ms. Ndema argued on behalf of agricultural farmer throughout Africa stating that they "have a wealth of expertise and potential and that these need to be accessed, enhanced and expanded upon."

She asserts that African farmer do not need a hand out, rather they must have access to the knowledge and tools they need to unleash agriculture's full potential for the continent. "Existing knowledge must reach more farmer, new research must focus on Africa-specific solutions and progressive policies must support infrastructure and education programs to build capacity.
