Collective Action Driving Development

All too often development programs and projects overlook the input from the intended beneficiaries. Now, Community Driven Development (CDD) is an approach that is becoming more common among international relief agencies.

Local communities have the power over planning decisions and investment resources. The initiatives make development more transparent and cater to the needs and limitations of all members of a community.

The government of Sierra Leone in conjunction with the World Bank will launch these CDD's in 250 villages and evaluate their effectiveness. The randomly selected villages will undergo a two year community driven development program and receive training and small grants for projects defined by the community members themselves.
