Tennis Star to Build A School Every Year

Serena Williams, famed tennis star and philanthropist, plans to build one new school every year in education deprived areas in Africa. In 2008 Williams commissioned the construction of her first school in Kenya, an area with 60% of its people living below the poverty line.

Since then Serena has had her hand in building other schools in Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa. She has also provided student grants and joined the efforts against Malaria in Ghana.

"It is my goal to open many schools for thousands of children who do not have the opportunity to get good education. I plan to do one every year," said Serena. It is refreshing to see professional athletes such as Williams use their good fortune to give back.
