The nation of Congo received a huge helping hand from China on Wednesday. China will lend approximately $700 million dollars to Congo to build a hydroelectric dam in its Sangha region.
The agreement, signed by the Energy Ministry of Congo and Chinese giant SinoHydro, has the beginning construction date set on June 2011. The dam will provide hydroelectric power to the entire northern region of the Republic of Congo.
China also has a hand in the African nations of Cameroon and Gabon helping their energy and power needs tremendously. The dam project in Congo comes after SinoHydro financed 85% of another northern Congo dam in 2003. Despite its own problems with poverty, China goes above and beyond to help others in need.
