New Efforts to Combat Measles in Zimbabwe

A new U.N.-backed effort in Zimbabwe will target 5 million children between the ages of 6 and 14 to receive measles immunizations. This move comes in response to a measles outbreak that has already affected 55 of the country's 62 districts. Peter Salama, Zimbabwe's representative U.N. Children's Fund (UNICEF) hopes that "we can use the outbreak to improve Zimbabwe's health sector." In addition to the mass immunizations, the new effort will also provide children with Vitamin-A supplements.
