This was put on to honor the journalist that are reporting the grim, and unwanted truth about poverty in Latin America, instead of the flashing catch stories. Unfortunately there is a lot of poverty in Latin America and by reporting the truth, it will become much easier to solve than to pretend it doesn't exist. The prizes went out to journalist that portrayed the truth about poverty in their region. These reporters are committed to the UN Millennium Development Goals and want their stories to be answered and solved. The winners range from a variety of countries and all receive monetary prizes.
